SUMMER 2023

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS
June 7, 14, 21 & 28; July 5, 12, 19, & 26
7–9 p.m. EST via Zoom

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION

For eight weeks I’ll hold space for you to make a writing dive into the waters of your life (troubled or otherwise), so you can come to the surface with some real gems.

The short of it:

  • Writers of every level welcome!

  • Workshop limited to 8 participants—women, femme-identifying, & non-binary people only

  • 15- to 20-minute in-session writes based on writing prompts

  • Every participant will have two opportunities to workshop a short piece of writing

The long of it:

Each week for eight weeks, a maximum of eight women and non-binary writers of every level will gather via Zoom to write in situ in response to a prompt meant to get them to write with an honesty that alarms even them. For the next part of each week’s meeting, Sarah Dohrmann will lead workshops of participants’ more polished works of about 3-4 pages in length (double-spaced). The writing prompts at the top of each meeting will be used as springboards for the writing that’s workshopped at the end of each meeting.

But of course, as ever, anything goes. If you’ve already got a personal nonfiction writing project in mind or underway, and you want to do your own thing with it, you’re invited to do that, too.

You don’t start out writing good stuff. You start out writing crap and thinking it’s good stuff, and then gradually you get better at it. That’s why I say one of the most valuable traits is persistence.
